Swanson Bequest Supports Library Student Employees

“Michigan State University opened up countless opportunities for us,” said Judith Ann “Jude” Swanson, who, with her husband Kim, has documented a $1 million bequest from their estate to the MSU Libraries for an endowed fund to benefit student workers. “That educational experience would never have been so rich, so broadening, or so beneficial to us without the library.”

Conlin Bequest Benefits Physics & Astronomy Staff

The Physics and Astronomy department in the College of Natural Science has been well served by one of their own. Marc Conlin has served the department in various roles for nearly 40 years. He recently established a bequest through his personal trust to fund an endowment that will benefit support staff in the department. The Marc Conlin Endowment will be awarded to non-academic staff in Physics and Astronomy at the discretion of the chairperson.

Culvers Endow Fund For Sports Broadcasting

In October 2007, a unique gift was made to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and its Sports Broadcasting area by Jim and Suzanne Culver. The gift was created through a charitable remainder unitrust (CRUT) to fund state-of-the-art video equipment for Sports Broadcasting. To ensure that Sports Broadcasting would be using the most advanced equipment available in perpetuity, the Culvers created an endowment which will be funded at the termination of their CRUT. Their future gift, currently valued at approximately $475,000, is expected to grow over time and will “contribute to maintaining the highest possible video service for Michigan State athletics,” according to Jim.
